How a Backyard Joke Became a Global Game
May 3, 2026 · 4 min read
It started, like most great ideas, with a debate that nobody really wanted to win.
Our friend group is a mess—in the best way. Half of us grew up kicking, the other half throwing. The Europeans wouldn't touch a football. The Americans had no patience for ninety scoreless minutes of soccer. We needed a sport where the only requirement was showing up.
So one weekend we set up a chair in a backyard, found a ball, and made up a rule on the spot: kick it to your partner, and they have to hit the chair. No hands. The first round was a disaster. The second round was worse. By the fifth round, we were keeping score.
Chairball was born.
Since that first afternoon, we’ve played on beaches, in parking lots, at the foot of monuments, and in front of a confused but supportive crowd at more than one tailgate. The rules have evolved. The chairs have multiplied. And the community has grown to people we’ve never met, in cities we’ve never been to.
We don’t take ourselves too seriously, but we do take the game seriously. As the sport grew, so did the gear. We’ve obsessed over every detail of the official Chairball setup—from the durability of the chair to the precision of the hole—because a great game deserves great equipment. The future of sports doesn’t have to be high-tech or exclusive. Sometimes it just needs to be fun enough that someone says, "wait, run that play back."
This is the start of our story. We’ll be sharing tournament recaps, player spotlights, the lore behind the rules, and the occasional questionable strategy guide. Subscribe to the waitlist and follow us on Instagram and TikTok to be part of what comes next.
