Game Manual
The Rules of Chairball
Easy to learn. Hard to master. Impossible to play without laughing.
Players
Each team is composed of 2 players, so at least four people are needed to play. There is no maximum number of players—the more the merrier!
Game Setup
Easy! Set the Chairball chair, connect the string to the buckles in the bottom of the chair, and walk back pulling the end of it until the string is straight. Spacers mark the distances of the different rounds. The last one must be at 15m (~49′).
Important
Find a flat terrain—grass, beach sand, soil, concrete, anything works! But the ball must be able to naturally stop if you are not fast enough.
How to Play
Score points by working with your teammate to kick the football to hit the chair—without dropping your drink!
- One member holds the football in their hands and kicks it without touching the ground toward their partner. The better the pass, the more chances your partner will have to score.
- One team plays at a time. Once all teams have played once, the roles switch and the other team member plays their turn at the same level.
- Only after every player has had a turn at a level does the group rotate to the next one.
- Each couple plays two rounds per level.
Scoring System
For an easier experience counting points, scan the QR code on the chair and start registering points under the Score Tracker.
Levels 1 to 4
| Action | Description |
|---|---|
| 1 Point | The ball bounces before the receiver touches it; up to 3 touches are allowed to hit the chair. |
| 2 Points | Receiver kicks the ball before it touches ground; hits it, the ball hits the ground, then the chair. |
| 3 Points | Receiver kicks the ball in the air and it hits the chair without touching the ground. |
| +4 Bonus | If a 3-point shot also knocks down the chair. |
| 10 Points | If the football goes through the hole in the chair without touching the ground. |
Level 5: The Bonus Level
Rules are the same, but difficulty increases—and so do the points. Instead of 1, 2, 3, 4, and 10, this level scores 3, 5, 7, 10. You win the game if you are the first to score through the hole in the chair without the ball touching the ground!
Winning the Game
The team with the most points wins! However, you must comply with the following rules:
- Drink in hand at all times. Every player (punter and receiver) must hold a drink in one hand during their entire turn. If a player drops their drink during play, their team loses all points earned during that round. No replays or retries.
- The ball must remain in motion—a stopped ball ends the play.
- No hands can be used to control the ball.
- Each player plays as both receiver and punter per level.
- A swinging or wobbling ball is considered stopped—the ball must be visibly moving to be played.
- No score is awarded if the chair is missed.
- If you receive the ball in the air, you can touch it as many times as you want as long as it does not touch the ground. Once it touches the ground, you have only 2 extra touches to hit the chair.
- If the football touches the ground before the receiver touches it, the receiver has only 3 touches to hit the chair.
- The receiver must be behind the front legs of the chair until the other player passes the ball.
- In the case of a tie, a final sudden-death round is played from Level 5.
